Testimonials
Dr. Howard Liss treats disorders that cause pain and disability by providing consultative services and soft tissue and joint injections when needed. When medically appropriate, he makes specific referrals for diagnostic testing (lab work, imaging, electrodiagnosis), physical and occupational therapy, interventional procedures (epidurals and facet joint injections), and surgery.
Dr. Howie Liss, who received the 2018 Distinguished Clinician Award from the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, is one of those rare physicians who really listens to his patients, examines them thoroughly, and accurately diagnoses the origin of their problem. By treating the problem and not the symptom, he is able to successfully help people with a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. He is valued by his patients and respected by his peers for his knowledge and experience as well as his clinical and interpersonal skills . When I have family and friends in Bergen County in need of expert care, Dr. Liss is the physician I trust the most.

In 1997, 2 years removed from PT school graduation, I was lucky enough to join Dr. Howard Liss’ former medical practice as a staff physical therapist. I worked for Dr. Liss for 13 years, ultimately leaving his practice to relocate to the South East. Over the past 22 years of clinical practice, in a variety of clinical settings, I cannot recall another physician who has had a similar impact on my growth within the field of Physical Therapy as Dr. Liss.
Howard Liss was a wonderful mentor and always treated me as a peer. We were team members tasked to improve the function of our patients. He, managing the medical aspect (medication, imaging and interventional injections, etc.) and me practicing the art of Physical Therapy. In a field often dominated by strong egos, Dr. Liss stood out as a true patient advocate and one who put his patient’s well being first. Dr. Liss was keenly aware of which PT’s would best manage his patients care and was always open to communication regarding patient progress and plan of care.
In addition to being a co-worker, I have also been a patient of Dr. Liss. Dr. Liss is an amazing diagnostician. He listens to his patients’ subjective histories and symptoms, performs detailed examinations, formulates clear and succinct diagnoses, and makes appropriate referrals with the ultimate goal of decreasing pain and improving function. If I lived in the area, Dr. Howard Liss would be my first stop for treatment of musculoskeletal pain and disability.

I was very fortunate to have first met Dr. Howard Liss when he was a preceptor at New York-Presbyterian where I was a resident. We later became colleagues when I joined his practice and it was there, under his mentorship, that I truly learned how to practice the art of medicine.
Dr Howard Liss provides extraordinary care, combining his superior clinical skills with many decades of experience to work in partnership with his patients to achieve the best outcome. When you are a patient of Dr Liss’, he ensures that you will be given the best chance to get better, from his detailed prescriptions to recommending the right therapist for your condition, to communicating with that therapist frequently, or conferring with another doctor, all to make sure that his patient gets optimal care. He is the Doctor to doctors and the one who I would recommend to my family members.
